9 Easy Ways to Remember Your Presentation Material

Posted by LTIA on April 19, 2012

by Bruna Martinuzzi

1. Use the Palace Method

Research into brain science has proven that there is a very deep connection between the way we remember an event and the space in which it occurred.

2. Use mind maps

Mind maps are diagrams that allow you to lay out all of your presentation material in a visual shape rather than in list form.

3. Know the value of focusing for eight seconds

Memory experts tell us that it takes an uninterrupted eight seconds for Read the rest of this entry »

Unpredictable is no reason to postpone decisions

Posted by LTIA on March 28, 2012

“The problem is that we simply cannot predict every possible future, yet we behave as if we can.”

“Thinking and  creating endless ‘what if’ scenarios doesn’t help you.” “You  can ‘what if’ yourself to death. The only way to know for sure is to  act, reflect on what you have learned and act some more to gain more  learning.”

“When the results of thinking  would lead to actions that are predictable (such as, “I wonder how many  high-end sports cars I could sell in a year during an economic slump,”  they explain), let prediction dominate, supplementing it with creaction  as necessary.”

“But in the face of unknowability—what  is the market for things that don’t yet exist?—you can’t do a lot of  learning in advance. In this case, the fastest, easiest, most effective  and often only way to get that learning is by acting.”

“If  you never act, you will never know what is possible and what is not.  You may think you know, but you won’t be able to Read the rest of this entry »

Obama promises Russians after re-election

Posted by LTIA on March 27, 2012

“Unaware that a microphone was recording him, President Obama asked outgoing Russian President Dmitry Medvedev Monday for breathing room until after Mr. Obama’s re-election campaign to negotiate on missile defense.”1

“This is my last election,” Mr. Obama said. “After my election, I have more flexibility.”1

“The two leaders are in Seoul for a nuclear security summit involving the heads of more than 50 nations. Mr. Obama and Mr. Medvedev were huddling close together in their respective chairs when the conversation took place.”1

“Republicans in Washington reacted angrily, accusing Mr. Obama of hiding his true intentions and fearing he might be willing to give the Russians access to sensitive security information after the elections. Read the rest of this entry »

America’s Biggest Political Problem

Posted by LTIA on March 25, 2012

“National recovery depends on rolling back previous leftist victories. That means giving no more gains to the left through compromises, cutting government outlays on “entitlements” and “discretionary” spending, and cutting back both regulations and the legal authority for bureaucrats to impose more regulations. That’s the only way to save the economy, promote growth, and create more jobs.

“The pendulum of public policy must be swung back. If that is not achieved, our country is headed straight for something much worse than the similarly-caused financial crisis today in European countries. It would be worse because, unlike for Europe now, there is no source on Earth capable of bailing out a bankrupt United States.”

World Government needed to control Climate and Human behavior

Posted by LTIA on March 22, 2012

Call for effective world government to control human behavior.

In spite of the exposed information scandals and research showing that human contribution to CO2 emissions is insignificant, climate-phobes are still pushing their agenda. Scientific American published an article by Gary Stix March 17, 2012 calling for an effective World Government solution to controlling human behavior of the seven billion people in the world.
Social engineering is the goal. “A policy article authored by several dozen scientists appeared online March 15 in Science to acknowledge this point… fundamental reorientation and restructuring of national and international institutions toward more effective Earth system governance and planetary stewardship [is needed].’”
Citing an old article from six years ago, Stix argues that, “Human societies must now change course and steer away from critical tipping points in the Earth system that might lead to rapid and irreversible change.”
Rethinking articles he approved for Scientific American, Stix says, that he would devote “at least half of the available space for feature articles on psychology, sociology, economics and political science…. I’ve come to the conclusion that the technical details are the easy part. It’s the social engineering that’s the killer. Moon shots and Manhattan Projects are child’s play compared to needed changes in the way we behave.”
“To be effective, a new set of institutions would have to be imbued with heavy-handed, transnational enforcement powers.”
“Behavioral economics and other forward-looking disciplines in the social sciences try to grapple with weighty questions. But they have never taken on a challenge of this scale, recruiting all seven billion of us to act in unison.” Read the rest of this entry »

Being human not enough to escape after-birth abortion

Posted by LTIA on February 28, 2012

Being human not enough for right to life.

“Two ethicists working with Australian universities argue in the latest online edition of the Journal of Medical Ethics that if abortion of a fetus is allowable, so to should be the termination of a newborn.

Alberto Giubilini with Monash University in Melbourne and Francesca Minerva at the Centre for Applied Philosophy and Public Ethics at the University of Melbourne say that,

‘Both a fetus and a newborn certainly are human beings and potential persons, but neither is a ‘person’ in the sense of ‘subject of a moral right to life’.’

‘Merely being human is not in itself a reason for ascribing someone a right to life.’

“The two [ethicists] are quick to note that they prefer the term “after-birth abortion“ as opposed to ”infanticide.” Why? Because it “[emphasizes] that the moral status of the individual killed is comparable with that of a fetus (on which ‘abortions’ in the traditional sense are performed) rather than to that of a child.”

“The circumstances, the authors state, where after-birth abortion should be considered acceptable include instances where the newborn would be putting the well-being of the family at risk, even if it had the potential for an “acceptable” life.

“A newborn whose family (or society) that could be socially, economically or psychologically burdened or damaged by the newborn should have the ability to seek out an after-birth abortion.”

Leadership Lessons

Leadership by the book

There have been meetings of only a moment which have left impressions for life—for eternity…. Everyone of us continually exerts influence, either to heal, to bless, to leave marks of beauty; or to wound, to hurt, to poison, to stain other lives. [J.B. Miller]

A leader has something that others want. [Patrick R. Briney]

Knowing how to do a job is the accomplishment of labor – showing others is the accomplishment of the teacher – making sure the work is done by others is the accomplishment of the manager – inspiring others to do better work is the accomplishment of the leader. [John Maxwell]

Christian leadership is compelling by both the Holy Spirit and a compassion for others. [Patrick R. Briney]

Christian leadership responds to the Holy Spirit and the needs of others. [Patrick R. Briney]

Leadership, like other gifts of the Spirit, is for the edifying of the body of Christ. It is not presumptuous, therefore, to feel the desire to lead if we are called to it. [Derek Prime and Alistair Begg, On Being a Pastor, Moody Press, 2004, p. 218.]

A godly leader understands that God, not man, Read the rest of this entry »

Burger in a tube for sustainability

Posted by Patrick Briney, Ph.D. on February 20, 2012

Hambruger inside a flask

Burger in a tube more sustainable friendly than cows in a pasture.

The world’s first test tube hamburger will be served up this October after scientists perfect the art of growing beef in the lab.

Speaking at the American Academy for the Advancement of Science (AAAS) annual meeting in Vancouver yesterday afternoon (SUNDAY), Prof Post said his team has successfully replicated the process with cow cells and calf serum, bringing the first artificial burger a step closer.

By generating strips of meat from stem cells researchers believe they can create a product that is identical to a real burger.

Mass-producing beef, pork, chicken and lamb in the lab could satisfy the growing global demand for meat – forecast to double within the next 40 years – and dramatically reduce the harm that farming does to the environment.

Last autumn the Telegraph reported that Prof Mark Post of Maastricht University in the Netherlands had grown small strips of muscle tissue from a pig’s stem cells, using a serum taken from a horse foetus.

He said: “In October we are going to provide a proof of concept showing out of stem cells we can make a product that looks, feels and hopefully tastes like meat.”

He said: “Eventually my vision is that you have a limited herd of donor animals in the world that you keep in stock and that you get your cells from there.” Each animal would be able to produce about a million times more meat through the lab-based technique than through the traditional method of butchery, he added.

To produce the meat, stem cells are placed in a broth containing vital nutrients and serum from a cow foetus Read the rest of this entry »

God versus the presumption of atheism

Posted by Patrick Briney, Ph.D. on February 9, 2012

The point of the first law of thermodynamics is that energy cannot create itself by any physical means we know of today. This law of science stands without exception and without reason to question its veracity. Thus, to propose that energy did indeed create itself contradicts the empirical conclusion of energy conservation. Adherence to such a conclusion exposes one’s bias for naturalism and subsequent loss of objectivity.

The counter argument is to say that energy always existed or as Stephen Hawkings said, “Now we come to God.” This is not to say that Hawkings believes in God, but the point he was making was that he does not know what or who brought about the existence of energy.

Because energy does exist, and the physical laws indicate that it could not create itself, then it is logical to conclude that it always existed. Atheism is not established, merely presumed by some. God has always existed.

Thus we must consider the second law of thermodynamics, which states that entropy (chaos, disorganization) in a closed system will increase. Observation of the universe shows that organized energy is decreasing and entropy is increasing. The increasing entropy means that there must have been a tremendous decrease of entropy in the past. To propose that such decrease occurred by natural laws and properties of energy contradicts Read the rest of this entry »
